Introduction
Every traveling healthcare professional should maintain a professional portfolio. This goes beyond a simple resume and should include all documentation required to obtain a travel position. It should include:
- Work history if resume cannot fit all relevant positions
- Agency application (optional depending)
- Recent written references or evaluations, minimum of two
- Current annual physical or health clearance including vaccinations, titers, and TB status
- Current licenses and certifications (don’t be shy about that specialty certification either)
- N95 sizing documentation (recommended)
It is best to save all supporting documentation related to an assignment as well. While this is not really part of your professional portfolio, keeping such documents electronically can sometimes prove invaluable.
As a quick note about paper versus electronic storage, placing your portfolio on your computer gives you maximum flexibility to customize and quickly update your portfolio and resume, and respond quickly to a fast moving desirable assignment with an email or internet based fax from you almost instantly. A scanner is highly recommended to assist in maintaining your professional portfolio. You can read more about these issues in the companion article Communications on the Road.
